The Congress of the People (COPE) unveiled its logo this weekend. The party’s deputy chairman Mbhazima Shilowa said the logo — a circle with a green cross through and comprising of the other colours of the national flag — was a collective work deriving from a number of suggestions submitted to the party. The logo also represents a fusion of the symbols of liberation and the flag of the nation as a symbol of unity and multiplicity. COPE expects there to be objects with regards to the logo and the party’s name from the ANC. It will be interesting to see what will happen if the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) rejects COPE’s name and logo as I am sure COPE has already invested millions in branding for the new party.

The X in the middle of the wheel is scary. Its a warning

Or is it a X factor for the Xhosa? Oh i remember it also reminds me of the swastika without arms bent at right angles! THE N….’s are COMING!!
How about it indicating the concept of negation (for example “no, this has not been verified” or “no, I don’t agree”)! wikipedia

Viva Congress of the people, now the people will truly govern and eventually share. We are tired of being bullied by Polokwane Victors. We need leadership that cares about the needs of our people and are in defence of the Constitution. Vote COPE with its great colours and logo!

NTSKELELO on 20 November, 2008 at 12:48 pm

If the new party is based on bitterness and hatred God knows where we’re heading, however if it is sincere about about Mzansi & its progress then that’s mnca for ANC as we’ve been too relaxed and hampering service delivery and development.

tisetso on 23 November, 2008 at 5:46 pm

Zuma didn’t see that coming!

Tobela on 24 November, 2008 at 12:19 pm

I hope Ms Mda and Mr Madisha will not shame us again by calling people names as is the culture in the new ANC. I was proud that COPE apologised, VIVA with respect, democracy, constitutionalism and COPE leadership. Don’t you just love our logo!

Thato on 13 December, 2008 at 10:35 am

I am for the movement, but how do we join COPE?

Letlhogonolo on 15 December, 2008 at 10:37 am

I am excited about the surfacing of cope and consider it to be saving grace that will ensure we become nothing close to our neighbouring countries. You have my blessing and my vote. But i do not hear a lot about the party in Mpumalanga.

Mlungisi on 15 December, 2008 at 11:56 am

When is Madisha planning to form the trade union? Mda keep up the good work mntanam, try and maintain a disciplined millitancy. I know you are young and can not take certain things but you must always outsmart your rivals. I like. Viva COPE viva.

Letlhogonolo on 15 December, 2008 at 12:00 pm

We need to start seeing extreme amount of engagement. Its crucial to remember that time is really not in our favor but trust with high level intelligency and determination in our party we will conquer this mountain.

Dennis on 17 December, 2008 at 11:34 am

I would like to become a member of COPE.

SIBUSISO on 22 December, 2008 at 7:07 pm

I LOVE COPE

Godfrey on 23 December, 2008 at 2:57 pm

Mr Lekota couldn’t take good care of SANDF. Surely i don’t expect him to take good care of the country. COPE is a JOKE.

SIBUSISO on 25 December, 2008 at 4:43 pm

If South Africans are serious with better future..we must all vote COPE so that we’ll cope with better new-life…Viva Cope VIVA!!!!!S’bu@PMB

Godfrey Manakela on 30 December, 2008 at 3:02 pm

I percive COPE supporters as naive & short-sighted. Why? All the COPE leaders are from the ANC and other parties. They’re all preaching the gospel of change. What is that they’ll change that they failed to change while in the ANC. They don’t have people’s interest at heart, they’re only thirsty for power. After all they’re Mbeki’s followers. That’s why they resigned after him. South Africans must be careful, not being naive.

Ndiza on 6 January, 2009 at 12:42 pm

COPE supporters are not at all naive & short-sighted instead they have good intentions of saving this country from corruption and undisciplined leaders of the ANC. COPE will change a lot in this country for the BEST FOR ALL. COPE is here to stay and RULE, VIVA COPE VIVA !!!

Nceba on 17 January, 2009 at 3:13 pm

When and where is the manifesto launch taking place?

P.Oelkers on 18 January, 2009 at 10:58 am

Need any yellow shirts? I have a container full…

Godfrey Manakela on 19 January, 2009 at 12:29 pm

“Corruption & undisciplined leaders of the ANC?”. Why Mr Mbeki wanted to serve for more than two terms? Why did we have to go to limpopo? Why did Lekota and others resigned after Mbeki? Is it about Mr Mbeki or about the Country? Are we only experiencing corruption after the stepping down of Mbeki, Lekota, Shilowa & Others? If SA is corrupt after the stepping down of these leaders, who was corrupt before they stepped down? Ladies & Gents, it is common sense. We should know by now. COPE Leaders are thirsty for power. not for the country, but for Mbeki & themselves.

kopano on 23 January, 2009 at 4:29 pm

just becouse lekota resigned after mbeki that deosn’t mean that cope is about mbeki. cope is for people who are true south africans.people who don’t just complain but people who act.how many times have i heared south africans complain about the the way in which bee is handled. how many people vote for the a.n.c even though they are not pleased with it. those who dont pretend that things are fine while they are not are to me true south africans who are hopeful.
cope is for the people who have hope in south africa. people who are loyal to south africa not just a party. cope supporters fight for south africa. we are saying we want excellent leaders. lekota is brave enough to leave the a.n.c and take critics who says he is in it for just power. let him lead he is a brave south african. so are those sinior people who left the A.N.C we need people like this who will fight for what they believe in no matter what. that is what being a south african to me is about. if we adopt this attitute as south africans nothing will stop us. no one will be able to stop us ever. but first we must get out of our confort zones of being scared to give other parties a chance. a vote for cope is a vote for south africa

phumla on 23 January, 2009 at 4:34 pm

lets make a change south africans i know it is hard and not easy to believe but cope is an oppotunity we have all been wating for. let us grab it with both our hands and not let go of it.

Russia Magomani on 28 January, 2009 at 5:31 pm

COPE is the party of all race, unlike ANC and DA which accomodates particular race, i can rest assure you that we are going to win this election if not to reduce ANC’s two third majority. COPE is a threat to ANC than any political parties, that is why they disrupt our meetings everyday, and they have a reason to be afraid because we have arrived.

Vuyo on 3 February, 2009 at 10:59 pm

COPE has become a safe haven for all those people who were once uninterested in politics, and those previously active, but now have lost confidence in their respective political parties. For a healthy democracy to thrive successfully, there needs be many politically parties with different ideologies and agendas. The time of liberation movements has come and gone. We live in an era of freedom and democratisation. For that reason, we need to be tolerant of one another, in our diverse political culture. COPE may not have been formed by leaders as credible as other people would wish to be (I mean sceptics, etc.), but one day, we hope, we can live the dream of our forefathers, who fought to make it happen in our beautiful country. May COPE reign forever and forever. May we not be deceived and swayed by the wicked on our path to political freedom in this country.

At last we have a party that does ot and will ot hide behind revolutionary mind. Party that ascribes to good governance and not undermine the processes of the law and cover-up for buddies / comrades.

Tseke Nchabeleng on 16 February, 2009 at 8:17 pm

I just joined COPE last week, and paid R30 into the account”National convention”.

magugu on 11 April, 2009 at 3:40 pm

i’m confident that cope is going to win here in Plettenberg Bay,indications is the lot of panic from the anc in such a way that we don’t need to invite them in our meetings. unfortunately the uninvited guests are allways exposing their frastrations by trying to disrupt our meetings. In Plettenberg Bay we are proud of ourselves, and can say its where Cope started since we have been so long fighting corruption trying to defend the democracy that is in danger.our slogan was “Qina Mhlali, Qina” but now we’ve got our Political home, Our hope is Cope. “Qina Cope Qina”
