It is the start of the new year and some things are set to continue into 2008. Eskom announced today that there will be continued power cuts across the country this week. The power cuts could be up to two and a half hours long each and some places my experience up to two power cuts a day.
The electricity supply problem in South Africa seems to be getting worse and worse and there seems to be no solution in the near future. With the proposed electricity tariff increases, one can only hope that this will help stabalise the situation as there will be nothing worse than consumers paying a fortune for electricity and not having any.
I wonder if those in charge are actually realising the damage these power cuts are having to our economy? Businesses are suffering as they all need electricity in one form or the other. Today I experienced a two and a half hour long power cut from 12 noon. This was right in the middle of peak working time and all productivity has been lost for the day. The only thing todays power cut showed me was that at least Eskom were accurate in that the power went for exactly two and a half hours!
Be sure to check the Eskom website to get a schedule about when the power cuts will be in the areas that affect you.
