Last night, the Springboks walked their way into the Word Cup final by beating Argentina 37 - 13. This is the first time that South Africa have been in the final since winning the tournament in 1995.
South Africa will play England in the final on Saturday in what surely should be a guaranteed win for South Africa but with the way this World Cup has been going one can never be sure what is going to happen. Who would have thought that Argentina would beat France in the first game, Australia would be beaten by England or New Zealand would loose to France?
South Africa have all the confidence going into Saturdays final as they destroyed England 36 - 0 when the two teams met in the group stages. Surely if South Africa won but such a margin only a few weeks ago, they can repeat this come Saturday. South Africa are the only team so far not to have lost a game in the tournament and that should mean that they are the best team in the tournament and should win the World Cup. But I am sure the South Africa team will not be taking anything for granted.
England have not been playing great or even good rugby in the whole tournament but they find themselves in the final, defending the trophy they won 4 years ago. The difference between England now and the England team that won the Word Cup 4 years ago is that, 4 years ago they had good enough a team to win and win they did but this year their team does not look great and one can not even point out a player who has really shone for England in this years World Cup. But we all know that rugby is all about what happens inside the white lines for 80 minutes, and on any given day any team can beat any team.
I think South Africa have this World Cup won already. The whole country will be anticipating the arrival of William Webb Ellis at the OR Thambo International airport after Saturday.
Good luck South Africa.
